SUMMARY:Donald Spieth Memorial Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Second Annual Donald Spieth Memorial Concert featuring the Meridian Quintet will be held on Saturday\, October 4 at 2 p.m. in the Old Chapel. Recent winners of the Techne Music Festival\, violinist Miriam Smith\, violinist and violist Juan Felipe Villanueva Contreras\, violinist and violist Julia Kuzmina\, cellist Julian Shively\, and pianist Yanzhima Tsybikova will play works by Piazzolla\, Rimsky-Korsakov\, and Antonín Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No. 2 in A major\, Op. 81. Individually\, these quintet members have had international recognition\, garnering prestigious awards\, soloist appearances and principal positions in respected orchestras\, and performing on major stages across the globe. Collectively\, they combine their rich musical knowledge and shared passion into a cohesive and complex artistic voice\, one that strives for dynamic collaboration\, emotional depth and musical excellence.\n\nTechne Music is a five-day chamber music festival for highly advanced musicians. Formed in 2013 by violinist Timothy Schwarz\, Techne Music has faculty and guest artists from the Juilliard\, Orion\, American\, and Attacca Quartets\, as well as faculty members from the Juilliard School of Music\, the Curtis Institute of Music\, Peabody Conservatory\, and the Manhattan School of Music.\n\nThe Donald Spieth Memorial Award is given to one ensemble attending the Techne Music Festival. Named after the beloved conductor and music educator Donald Spieth\, the award includes two paid concerts in early October. Techne Music is grateful to Central Moravian Church and the MacDowell Series for sponsoring these concerts.

DESCRIPTION:Explore the 26th World Heritage Site in the United States – Moravian Church Settlements – Bethlehem – on this exciting 90-minute tour. \nThis comprehensive tour of Moravian Church Settlements – Bethlehem’s buildings and sites focuses on the approximately two-square block area of historic downtown Bethlehem that the Moravian settlers recognized as the center of their community\, as well as the living heritage and traditions that the Moravian Church Settlements still carry out today. \nOn this tour\, you’ll discover the Moravians’ history as you start out at the Moravian Museum of Bethlehem\, in the 1741 Gemeinhaus\, the only 18th century Moravian Gemeinhaus still in existence in the world. Next\, you’ll visit the Bell House Courtyard to see the 1746-1749 Bell House\, the First Single Brethren’s House/the Single Sisters’ House and the 1768 Widows’ House. Following this\, attendees will step inside the 1751 Old Chapel and the 1803-06 Central Moravian Church Sanctuary before walking through God’s Acre cemetery\, the final resting place for Moravians from 1742-1911. The tour concludes on Main Street with a look at the 1748 Second Single Brethren’s House and the 1761 Tannery and 1762 Waterworks in the Colonial Industrial Quarter. \nAfter your tour concludes\, you are invited to return to the Moravian Complex for a more in-depth tour of the Moravian Museum.

SUMMARY:Old Chapel & Sanctuary Tours
DESCRIPTION:The 1751 Old Chapel will be open each Friday and Saturday from 2-4 p.m. Learn about the Moravian Daily Textbook\, a short daily devotion that has been a part of Moravian tradition since 1731.  Guests will be welcomed to visit and learn more about the 1751 Old Chapel\, where George Washington and Benjamin Franklin worshipped and which welcomed local Native Americans as well as German settlers in its early history. The Chapel is still used for Sunday worship\, memorial services\, weddings and other church events. Dates subject to change in the event of a church function. Please check website. \n \nThe Church Sanctuary\, built from 1803-1806\, is open for guided tours from 2 – 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Guests will be welcomed to take this 45-minute tour of the sanctuary learning more not only about its architectural design\, history of music and worship\, but also the living ministries of Central Moravian Church today. Unique places like the 2nd floor Kleiner Saal will be included on this tour. A suggested donation of $5/person. A gift shop with many unique Moravian items\, as well as books and other gifts will be open. \n \nGuests should enter on the Northeast side of the church\, the door accessible to the church green and Heckewelder Place (closest to Moravian Book store). \nGuided tours of the Sanctuary and Old Chapel can also be arranged by contacting the church office at 610-866-5661. suggested donation of $5/person is requested for these tours. Church Street) at 2:30 every day the museum is open\, and all three locations are within easy walking distance of the museum.
